A Silverado That Sat Too Long and a Battery That Would Not Take a Charge

The truck sat in the driveway too long. A jump got it going, but it would not stay running, and a home charger could not bring the battery back. Brian swapped it.

The truck had sat in the driveway too long. It would start on a jump but not stay running, and the owner's charger could not bring the battery back. Brian came to the driveway in Monroe, tested it and put in a new battery.

Key Points

  • Chevy Silverado 1500 work truck
  • Sat parked too long without being driven
  • Started on a jump, would not stay running
  • Battery tested, then replaced
  • Done on the driveway in Monroe

What the Owner Said

The text came in after a missed call. The owner said the truck probably needed a battery. It had sat in the driveway too long. A jump would start it, but it would not stay started, and a basic charger would not take.

That is a clear story, and it still gets a test first. A battery job starts by making sure it is the battery.

What Was Done

The test said battery, and the record says the fix was a battery swap. Nothing else was found wrong. The truck was back in service on the same driveway.

How to Keep It From Happening Again

If a truck is going to sit for weeks, start it and drive it now and then. A battery tender is another way. It keeps the battery topped up while the truck is parked.

Questions

Why does a battery die when a truck sits?

A parked truck still draws a little power for its clock, alarm and computers. Over weeks that drains the battery, and a battery left flat for long can stop taking a charge.

Why will a home charger not bring my battery back?

A basic charger may not start on a battery that is too low, and a battery that has been flat too long may not hold a charge at all. A test settles it.

Is a jump enough?

Not when the battery will not hold a charge. On this truck a jump got it started, but it would not stay running. A new battery fixed it.
