What It Is
A scan tool reads the trouble codes the car has stored. A code tells you which system flagged a problem. It does not always tell you which part failed. A lean code can be a vacuum leak, a dirty sensor or a weak fuel pump, and the code reads the same for all three.
Troubleshooting is the step after the code. Testing, looking and ruling things out until the cause is found. On his own listing he describes himself as specializing in diagnosis, and Eleven of his written reviews describe him finding a fault.

Signs You Need It
- A check engine light, steady or flashing
- A noise, a smell or a shake that was not there last week
- A car that will not start, or starts and dies
- A problem that a new part already failed to fix
- A shop quote for a big part you are not sure you need
How It Goes at Your Address
The codes come first, then the testing. His reviewers describe what that looks like. One had been told by several shops she needed a new radiator, and he found a leaking hose. One says he ruled out the more expensive ideas and it turned out to be a simple fix. One had been through several people who could not find the problem.
If the fix is a part that has to be ordered, one reviewer describes him finding the part online and coming back out to fit it when it arrived.
Where His Line Is
Major electrical is the line. Reading codes, testing a battery or an alternator, and finding a failed sensor are on his list. Tracing a fault through the wiring harness, or a rewire, is not, and he would rather say so on the phone.

Fast to come out and diagnose the problem and what was needed to fix it. Couldn't find the needed part locally but told us what was needed, found the part online and when it came he came back out quickly to install it. Prices are very reasonable too.
Experience 10/10 Brian is very professional, reasonable and reliable. He did not change a word he came right out looked at my car and told me what was wrong with it and got straight to it. I'm so thankful to have found Brian to fix my car! Great work I would highly recommend his services to anyone needing their car fixed and unable to drive it. Does work in timely manner and he is overall a great person.
Great guy! It's awesome to have an honest auto mechanic who is also mobile. He did some troubleshooting and ruled out the more expensive ideas, and it turned out to be a simple fix. Offered other advice on how to save money on upcoming repairs as well. Would highly recommend in Waxhaw or other surrounding areas if you need a good auto mechanic who can also come to you.
Addition: Brian came back today and replaced the brakes and changed the coolant. He is on time, friendly, honest, and will def use again!
I had an excellent experience getting my alternator replaced. My car was having charging issues and kept dying on me, but he diagnosed the problem quickly and confirmed it was the alternator. He explained everything clearly, gave me a fair price, and got the repair done faster than I expected.
Since the replacement, my car has been running perfectly with no more battery warning lights or electrical issues. It’s such a relief knowing it was fixed the right way.
Professional, honest, and efficient service — I highly recommend them to anyone needing reliable auto repairs. I’ll definitely be coming back for future work.
When I contacted Brian I had been advised I needed a new radiator by several repair shops. Within minutes of working on my car, he located a leaky hose which turned out to be the real problem. Brian was so nice and knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything to me. The price was a huge savings to me and I cant Thank him enough! Very highly recommend! He even fixed my garage opener before he left...Best experience ever!
Highly Recommended!
My Jeep wouldn’t start this morning, and my husband contacted Huey’s Mobile Mechanic. He showed up quickly, figured out the problem right away, and even went to get a new battery for me. His service was fast, professional, and overall amazing.
We’re very impressed and will definitely be using him again in the future!

Questions
Before You Call
Can a mobile mechanic diagnose a car?
Yes. A scan tool and a set of meters travel as easily as a wrench. Eleven of his written reviews describe him finding a fault where the car was sitting.
Does he do auto electrical repair?
The starting and charging side, yes. He reads codes and replaces batteries, alternators, plugs and coils. Major electrical, meaning a wiring fault, a chased harness or a rewire, is not a job he takes on, and he would rather say so on the phone.
Is there a diagnostic fee?
He does not publish one, and this site will not promise you there is or is not one. Ask when you call. It is a fair question and the answer takes ten seconds.
My check engine light is flashing. What should I do?
Drive as little as you can. A flashing light usually means a misfire bad enough to do damage. Call and describe it, and say whether the car is running rough.
Can a code reader tell me what is wrong?
It tells you where to look. The same code can come from several different faults, which is why the testing after the code is the part that saves you money.
Will he tell me if it is not a driveway job?
That is what his limits list is for. Engine and transmission swaps, major electrical and anything that needs a lift go to a shop, and it is better to hear that on the phone.
